Book Review: Practice Makes Perfect (Housemates #3) by Jay Northcote

Practice Makes Perfect (Housemates, #3)

Getting experience with the guy next door seems like a great idea—until the lines blur.

Dev, a geeky first year physics student, has zero sexual experience and he’s determined to change that ASAP. After a bad time in halls of residence, he’s starting the summer term with different housemates and a new plan of action.

Ewan lives in the house next door to Dev. He’s young, free and single, and isn’t looking to change that anytime soon. When awkward circumstances throw them together, Ewan offers to help Dev out in the bedroom in return for maths tutoring, and Dev jumps at the chance.

They work their way through Dev’s sex-to-do list, but what starts as a perfect no-strings arrangement gets more complicated as their feelings for each other begin to grow. If they’re going to turn their lessons in lovemaking into something more permanent, they need to work out how they feel about each other—before they get to the end of Dev’s list.

Todd's rating:

This one was a pretty fun and sexy story of next door college neighbors getting to 'know' one another a whole, whole (hole?) lot better. ;- )

Dev is a nerdy, virginal college freshman, who likes to make lists for pretty much everything. As the story begins, his first list looks like this:
Things To Do This Term

▶ Make some friends
▶ Learn to cook
▶ Research sex stuff
▶ Join Grindr
▶ Get some experience
▶ Find a boyfriend
Hot, tall and sporty ginger Ewan had only briefly met Dev once, when an Amazon package for Dev is delivered to his house, containing a sexy toy, which Ewan opens by mistake.

Not wanting to embarrass Dev any more than necessary, Ewan hand delivers the, ahem, 'package' to Dev, which sparks discussion and they reach a gentleman's agreement.

Dev will tutor Ewan in statistics and the more experienced Ewan will help Dev work through his first gay experience to do list. Because, of course, Dev has a list for that, too.
Sex Things to Try

▶ Kissing
▶ Hand jobs
▶ Frottage
▶ Blow jobs (giving)
▶ Blow jobs (receiving)
▶ Fingering
▶ Rimming (giving)
▶ Rimming (receiving)
▶ Topping
▶ Bottoming
However, what starts out as kisses and hand jobs, pretty quickly begins to involve real feelings, but the original agreement kind of excluded anything more than statistics and sex, so both boys struggle to hide that there may be more at play here.

And just when both boys start to entertain the idea of coming clean, Ewan overhears Dev telling Rupert (MC from book 2) that Ewan isn't his boyfriend, so there are hurt feelings and it all begins to fall apart.

Then, thankfully, everything comes to a head and 'more' becomes a possibility, so the story ends with a nice, solid HFN.

Just an FYI, although all 4 MC's from the previous 2 books are in this story, there isn't really anything too crucial info-wise required from the first books to read this one as a standalone story.

The story was both fun and sexy, with just a bit of anal-retentive innocence, so if you're a fan of the series, I'd definitely suggest giving this 4 star book a read, too.
