Author Interview
What inspired you to write this book?
My mother had recently passed away and I was sitting at the kitchen table watching the rain fall. I ended up writing about how the rain falling made me feel, which turned into a wake scene for Shayla’s mother. I then met the other characters in the book and as they say, the rest is history.
How did you come up with the concept and characters for the book?
Rain began the story line, the people affected by the mourning and then the man who would be there for her even through it all. I have always been interested in the fey and the chance to write about them and Scottland is a dream come true.
Where did you come up with the names in the story?
I researched the names of the characters to match their traits.
In Irish Gaelic, Shayla means "fairy palace."
In Scottish Baby Names the meaning of the name Kyle is: Strait. Channel. Narrow.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I enjoyed learning about Scottland and the Celtic / Gaelic history.
Tell us about your main characters- what makes them tick?
Protecting her family and people are what drives Shayla, while Shayla is what drives Kyle.
Their love for one another is another major force in both. There are also Celtic Gods and Goddesses that play a role in the changes taking place.
How did you come up with the title of your novel?
Fay’s Wish is from Shayla’s mother, who made a wish for her daughter.
If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
Gerard Butler, because no matter his age, how dreamy can you get?
Scarlett Ingrid Johansson because her acting is just amazing.
Anything specific you want to tell your readers?
If it were not for the readers then writing would not be as fun as it is, I hope that each of you take something away from the stories I write and find yourself being drawn into the worlds being created.
What is your favorite part of this book and why?
I think the favorite part of the story has to be the waterfall scene but you have to read it to learn why.
If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
I would want to spend time with Shayla, to see the world through her eyes and find out how things turned out in the future between her and Kyle. Are they still happily in love, what are their children like, what does she do for downtime?
Looking back on this answer… I wish there had been a final chapter added that covered these questions.
Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?
Definitely hijacked, I never really know what is going to happen until it does. My heroines have a story to tell and I am lucky enough to be the vessel they choose.
Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.
This isn’t your fairy meets mortal and everything glitters kind of story, the characters face real challenges. They must decide between themselves and those around them. There is love, loss, pain, hate, anger, frustration and hope in the story.
Have you written any other books that are not published?
I have ghost written a few stories and my other books are currently being worked on.
If your book had a candle, what scent would it be?
French Vanilla or Orange. French Vanilla because it is my favorite candle scent out of all of them. It reminds me of warm cookies and spending time with my family. Orange reminds me of crisp spring days where you open the windows and let nature in.
Is there a writer whose brain you would love to pick for advice? Who would that be and why?
Charlaine Harris, Carrie Vaughn, Emily Jane Brontë, and Kelley Armstrong just to name a few. They have all created characters that will be remembered for generations to come.
