ARC Review: Redesigning Landry Bishop by Kim Fielding

Blurb:

Love never goes out of style.

Landry Bishop fled his tiny hometown and never looked back. Now his expertise in food, fashion, and décor has earned him all of Hollywood’s glittering perks. But with his husband deceased and his personal assistant retired, Landry has nobody to rely on—and no one to help him indulge his secret cravings.

Casual, plainspoken Jordan Stryker seems a dubious choice of a PA for someone as formal and self-controlled as Landry. Jordan’s questionable fashion sense and limited kitchen skills don’t exactly enhance his résumé. But as Landry soon realizes, Jordan has many attractive qualities too.

With a strong pull toward Jordan, new career opportunities on the horizon, and a persistent tug from family back home, Landry is in a quandary. He can advise others on how to make their lives special, but what should he do about his own?

Sandra's review:

This was a really sweet, low-angst, romance novel, pairing a Nebraska-born, LA-living workaholic fashion and food blogger and occasional TV personality with a younger, happy-go-lucky man who takes on a job as his PA.

This is a drama-free comfort read. As Landry (Mr. Foodie Fashion) and Jordan (I-just-want-to-get-for-people) get to know each other and spend time with each other, the feelings between them slowly bubble to the surface, a bit faster for Jordan than for Landry, who after his husband's death doesn't quite know how to have feelings anymore. Grief will do that to you.

It's low-steam, as most of the books in the Dreamspun Desires series are, but that doesn't take away from the romance. Jordan extroverted character is a perfect counter-balance to Landry's introvert, and the book takes us along for the ride as they work together, travel together, and as Landry realizes that there's much more to Jordan than he first thought. And learns a few truths along the way as well.

There's no contrived drama, no huge misunderstandings, just a sweet, somewhat fluffy story about two men finding in each other exactly what they've been looking for. Or not looking for, in Landry's case, but exactly what he needed.

As I expected, this is a well-written summer read to take with you to the pool or the beach. Give it a try.
