Genre: Romance, Bisexual, Rock star, NYC, humor
Music is Tim Chalmers’s great escape and the one thing that’s never let him down. But his band Spiral’s meteoric rise to fame has made it difficult for the drummer to maintain a low profile. Unwanted press pesters him after a public breakup with a volatile ex-girlfriend who loves the limelight as much as he loathes it. Tim’s main goal is to avoid confrontation. However, when he meets a handsome stranger in a dive bar who turns out to be someone he may know, everything changes.
Carter Hamilton-Temple might be a successful financial consultant with more brains, sophistication, and charm than most, but he always falls for the wrong guys: closet cases or men with issues. He can’t fight his attraction to the tattooed rock star, but can he trust his own judgment? When the thrill of danger combined with a fierce physical connection proves too strong for either man to resist, a quiet liaison away from the public eye and curious friends seems like a safe bet. But some secrets are hard to keep. When rumors threaten to rock his world, Tim realizes it’s time to confront his fear with his own kind of honesty.
Excerpt“What kind of a rock star are you? You’re supposed to love sex, drugs, and alcohol. I haven’t known you long, but you seem to only really like one out of three,” Carter commented idly as he shuffled the cards.
“You’re right. I’m a sucky rock star. I rarely have more than one drink when I go out for dinner or even at a bar. Two at a party. Anything more usually leads to trouble. And I never take drugs. Even cold medicine makes me nervous.” I winked and gave him a lecherous grin that no doubt looked far from provocative in my current condition. “But I love sex.”
Hi Lane, thanks for joining us today! Please tell us a little bit about this new book.
A Kind of Honesty is book three in the A Kind of Stories series. This one belongs to Tim and Carter. Readers of the previous two books may remember that Tim is the drummer in Spiral from A Kind of Truth and Carter is Zeke’s best friend in A Kind of Romance. However, if you haven’t read either, no worries! These are standalones and can be read in any order.
A Kind of Honesty goes back to the rock and roll roots of AKT, but like the others, this is first and foremost a love story. On the surface the drummer and the financial consultant have nothing but close friends and off-the-charts sexual chemistry in common. However, they soon realize there is more between them than either counted on. And as the two men get to know one another, the superfluous aspects of their intense attraction melts away to reveal an unexpected kind of honesty that may just be “the real thing”.
What is the most difficult part of your artistic process?
Getting into the main character’s head can be a challenge. A Kind of Honesty is told from Tim’s POV. Most serious musicians are in tune with their instruments in a way that transcends what the average listener notices. It was important to show how and why Tim gave up piano and found solace in the drums. His reasons go well beyond the associated cool factor of being in a band. They expose his most vulnerable points and on some level hopefully, make him very relatable.
Does your family support your career as a writer?
One hundred percent! Thank goodness!
How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Two and a half months on average. However, real life occasionally throws me off stride. My newest one is taking long than usual. But RL is demanding. We lost our beloved fourteen year old Lab in June, dealt with kid college drama and the general mayhem of having grown teenagers around all summer. Thankfully, we’re back to “normal”. Whatever that means. Lol. ☺
Do you believe in writer’s block?
The honest answer is yes, but I don’t dwell on it. When the words don’t come and my MCs won’t speak to me, it’s best to walk away and try again later. A little space sometimes provides inspiration and perspective!
Thank you so much for having me here today!
