Today we welcome Hurri Cosmo with
The Door Keeper
Although they've been labeled as a group of misfits, Minneapolis' 77th police precinct has plenty of talent. The problem is, it's paranormal talent and no one's supposed to know about it.
Nick keeps his officers busy chasing after all the creepy crawly things that tend to go "bump" in the night, thus insuring the twin cities are safe and totally unaware that other realms even exist. Nick is the Door Keeper and his job as the precinct’s captain is to maintain order in what would otherwise be chaos.
When said chaos rears its ugly head in the form of a ferocious and brutal vampire, the last thing Nick needs is to deal with a new partner, even if that new partner is as sexy as Arrain.
As a special treat, we conducted a character interview with Arrain:
Hello, Arrain. Thanks for taking the time to let me talk with you today.
Sure. Love to.
So let me start off by asking you about Nick. He’s your lover, right? How do you feel about him being a cop?
Sometimes it’s scary. I don’t like the phone calls in the middle of the night. I want to keep him safe but his job is… well, his job. He’s pretty devoted to it.
He’s also pretty devoted with his crew. How do you feel about that?
I have no problem with it. They’re good people.
How do you feel about his crew?
Like I said. They’re a good group. They’re devoted to Nick and are determined, like me, to keep the man safe. Sometimes a job that requires a team.
It sounds like you think Nick might be a little impulsive?
He has an inbred need to keep things under control. It’s not that he’s impulsive, more like too courageous. But, yeah, he screws up. That’s where the rest of us come in.
But you’re not a cop, right?
Not in the conventional sense, no.
So, what is it that you do, Arrain?
I'm mainly a consultant these days. Maybe play back up.
Nick likes to think he's in charge of everything. So I just make sure he's got support.
He's not in charge?
(Shrugs and smiles) Of some things.
As you know, I talked with Nick earlier. He told me some fantastical things.
Oh Really? Like what?
That you guys chase down, capture and return boogie men to, how did he put it, different realms?
He said that? He said 'boogie men'? (Laughs)
Well, not boogie men, I guess, but monsters and vampires. Same thing.
Oh, I assure you, they are not. And yes, that’s what we do. Can't have monsters and vampires running all around causing havoc.
I see. So supporting him also means supporting his delusions?
Who says they're delusions? You don't believe in vampires?
I've never seen one. Never heard of one being captured.
Of course not. That's how good Nick is.
That's what he said. Do you guys really expect me to believe all this nonsense about you saving the world from the mythical beast under my bed?
Oh no, not the world. Not yet, anyway. Just Minneapolis.
Well, let's move on. I'll ask some personal questions like the ones I asked of Nick, Okay? So the first one is what do you want from life?
Just Nick. He's what I've always wanted. Life is good if he's in it. And he is.
If you were granted three wishes, what would you ask for?
Wow. Maybe that the universe wasn't so crazy so Nick could take a break. So we could take a break.
That’s only one wish.
Not the way I see it.
That’s so romantic. Not at all what I got from Nick. So, I’m interested to see what you say to this question. What three things would you take to a Desert Island?
(Chuckles) Three things, huh? Well, Nick and lube for sure. Maybe a blanket because, sand?
(Laughs) Another thing Nick told me is that even though you two are in love, it’s not really the same as falling in love. He said something about being paired. What does that mean?
Well, I’m not sure what falling in love is but being paired is a gift. It’s like being given the ability to see someone’s heart, their very soul, know their deepest desires. It’s sharing their burdens and pain and loving every minute of it. And then to be bonded to that someone? All I can say is wow. Everyone should experience something like that kind of high.
Yeah. Wow. You explain that so much better.
So tell me, what parts of loving come easy for you?
Just being with the man. When I’m not, I feel a part of me is missing. I don’t even like not being in the same room much less any farther apart.
What comes hard?
(Slyly looks at reporter and winks) Nick does. And I make sure it’s often.
Arrain! I can’t put that in my… um… Can you tell me more?
I like to taste him too. I like to feel that flesh of his on my tongue. Suck him up into my mouth.
And then, in turn, I like to push him to his knees and check the temperature of his mouth.
How? I mean… (Shakes head) Hot.
I’ve never found it any other way.
No! (Fans herself) I mean that was hot.
What do you consider your strengths?
I see myself as being good at discerning situations, keeping myself under control.
What do you consider your weaknesses?
(Laughs) Nick. Once he enters my thoughts, I lose all restraint and self-control.
What is one physical attribute you are proud of?
(Looks around then leans forward) My dick. Nick is sometimes afraid of it.
Yeah. That’s what he says. (Laughs)
So what one physical attribute would you change?
Absolutely nothing. (Smiles)
So I asked Nick what was the worst thing he had ever done and he didn’t answer me. Can you tell me what that was or at least why he wouldn’t talk about it?
(Sobers) No. It’s something he simply no longer talks about. None of us do.
He considers it his secret. So we respect that.
So my last question is how do you feel about your life right now?
Good. Well, could be better, I guess. We have some important work to get back to and once a certain something gets done, then life will be sweet.
A certain something? What would that be?
Vampires and monsters. Just vampires and monsters.
Thank you, Arrain!!

About the author:
Hurri Cosmo lives in Minnesota where she holds tight to the idea that there, where it’s cold a good part of the year, she won’t age as fast. Yep, she avoids the truth as much as she avoids mirrors. But one of the reasons she loves writing is reality doesn’t always offer up a “happily ever after” and being able to take control of that is a powerful lure. Being a happy ending junkie, writing just makes them easier to find. Oh, she doesn’t mind “real life” and she does try to at least keep it in mind when she writes her stories, but she truly loves creating a wonderful couple, knowing they will fall in love and have their HEA. Every - single - time. And, of course, that is exactly the reason she loves reading this genre, too. Give her a glass of red wine, some dark chocolate, and her computer, whether she is reading or writing, and she will entertain herself for hours. The fact she actually gets paid to do it is Snickers bars on the frosting on the cake.
