Holy crap Amy Lane, you did NOT go easy on these guys!! Cheating, friends and family dying, child abuse, countless life threatening injuries... this is the most ANGSTY Amy Lane book I have read to date! It is a wonder the MCs made it out alive!!

I am already an Amy Lane fan-girl, so I went into this book expecting greatness. Did I get greatness? I think I did, despite my issues with this book.

I actually didn't like the beginning. I wasn't into the way the characters were introduced. I wanted to know more about Parish and Deacon and they were kind of just thrown in there. I actually debated putting this one down for a little while but my inner voice said, "Heather, come on, it is AMY LANE. Push through, girl!" And I am so glad that I did.

Book Review: How to Repair a Mechanical Heart by J.C. Lillis

Don't hate me friends... I'm struggling a little with how to write a coherent review for this book. As with any book that most of my friends love and I don't quite connect with in the same way, I feel like I missed the party bus and I'm left standing in the dust waving my hands screaming "Guys! Wait up!! You forgot about me!" I so so so wanted to be invited to the "How to Repair a Mechanical Heart" love-fest but I think my own personal preferences got in the way.

Let me start with what I loved. This book was funny and well written- no two ways about it. I just about died reading the posts on the Abandon fan-fic site. The fanfic girls squeeing and blogging about their exploding vaginas was some of the funniest stuff I have read in a while. I could have read a book just of blog posts by this author. Brilliant stuff. I also loved the actors from Castaway Planet in all of their drunken, anti-role model glory. These were some moments that I really loved this book and thought it was going to be a 4 or 5 star read for me. However, not all of the parts of this book worked for my own tastes.

The blurb pretty much covers the extent of the plot for this short story. Adam finds M/M BDSM images on his roommate's laptop, and is fascinated. And really turned on. When Josh, the roommate, finds him looking at the images with his hands down his pants, the two boys hem and haw and then stumble into acting out the erotic and very explicit scenes depicted in the online images.

The author's ability to infuse the book with a good amount of teenage angst, on both sides for different reasons, was a large factor in this book's three star rating. Without it, this novella would be PWP, because it revolves largely around the boys' explorations, but since we are given insight into their fears, emotions and internal struggles, the reader is allowed a connection with them. The climax sets up a great HFN.

Hot, kinky and emotional, this quick read will leave you wanting.

In this 2nd installmenet of the REV series (Rear Entrance Videos, a title that fits so perfectly), we get to delve deeper into Rob's life. You'll remember Rob as one of the roommates in Apple Polisher (which you don't have to read for this book, but which you should read anyway), who jumped in with Noah and Austin when Christian needed help, but not much else was revealed about him then.

Well, this book is all about Rob. And Bobby.

Rob is shy. Prefers to stay in the shadows, afraid to make new friends, is socially awkward. He knows he's attracted to boys, and he quite likes the fact that he has a penis. Still, he's not entirely sure that he's all man.

Because there's also Bobby, Rob's online MMORPG persona, who's all girl and flirty and confident. She can joke and talk with the boys during the game, she is funny and smart and all the things Rob wants to be in real life.

Rob is what I would call gender-confused. I don't think he can be classified as transgender, because he likes the essential piece identifying him as male - his penis. But he also fantasizes about having a vagina. And boobs. Small boobs, nothing too in your face, but boobs nonetheless.

And then Rob meets Dylan in his Art class in college. Dylan is gay, out and proud, and interested in Rob. Rob can't believe Dylan might be interested in him.

Having set up the premise for the book, Heidi Belleau then proceeds to deftly infuse the angst and the drama. With self-deprecating snark, Rob stumbles through the dilemma of falling for Dylan, questioning his gender, testing the waters and getting himself into a big heap of trouble, in more ways than one.

This is the kind of book that gives the YA genre a good name, especially considering that it's told entirely from Evan's 17 yo POV, with a huge does of realism that is so often missing.

He's not really a likable character. His mother died, and he doesn't have a close relationship with his father. Like any 17 yo, he constantly has sex on the brain. With what should be classified as man-whore behavior, he will delete a girl's phone number from his phone as soon as the hook-up is over, not caring and/or not understanding the havoc he's wreaking on the girls' psyches or his own. He sees girls as objects and is always on the lookout for the next hook-up, while perfecting his hunting routine to find the girl who'll say yes.

Perpetually the 'new guy at school' due to his father's job which requires frequent moves, the book opens with Evan at a boarding school where his constant quest to find 'the girl who would say yes' takes a violent turn when he is beaten in the communal shower room within an inch of his life. After a lengthy hospital stay, and minus his spleen, Evan finds himself in the family cabin in small town Minnesota.

The book honestly depicts teenage sex, the hormone driven need to hook up with anyone willing without the ability to understand the emotional fallout from those activities. Even the horrific assault doesn't completely change Evan's view of girls. The realism in this novel is what earned it five shiny stars.

Book Review: Tell Me It's Real by T.J. Klune

Okay folks, picture this. You are on an airplane cross-country smushed between your husband, who is trying to sleep, and a stranger, who happens to be a guy. You start reading this book and literally... cannot... stop... laughing... for the whole flight. Friends, I suffered some pretty dirty looks from both my husband and said stranger over this book. I caught my husband reading over my shoulder at one point, probably to find out what strange book has caused his wife to go from semi-normal to a hyena-laughing fool, and the first words he caught were "giant black dildo". Let's just say my hubby's respect of my reading materials went way down.

ARC Review: Real Vampires Don't Sparkle by Amy Fecteau

The title first caught my eye with its not so subtle dig, and the summary sure sounded very interesting, so I requested the galley. Thanks, Curiosity Quills, for the approval.

The book has only a somewhat interesting plot, what plot there is, but enough snarky dialogue to keep me entertained throughout.

Matheus and Quin, his Sire, have an antagonistic relationship from the start, what with Quin killing Matheus and turning him into a vampire, something that Matheus doesn't quite appreciate. Both of them are rather adept at keeping secrets from each other, and both pay the price for doing so.

The author wrote a character driven novel that relies on both Matheus and Quin primarily to keep it going. And while Matheus questions his attraction to Quin, and thus his sexuality, not knowing whether the appendage in question even still functions, now that he's undead, he also learns about how to be a vampire.

Day 7 - The future of the Rough Riders

Slick from Guilty Pleasures: Since I just finished reading Redneck Romeo about the last McKay man standing, Dalton, I have to ask who will be the focus of book 16 and is that truly the end? Because I have to tell you having Ky driving and into girls is going to open up a whole can of worms about when the kid's stories are going to be told.

LJ: No fun, I know, but no comment on Rough Riders book 16 yet...I'll clue you all in a bit further down the road. I get a bajillion questions about why I'm ending the Rough Riders series at book 16. And yes, I could probably write a second generation of McKays (Love Love Love my readers but you guys are driving me insane with the "When will you write Boone and Sierra's book?! Crazy rabid fans, I keep threatening that if you keep nagging me it'll be...never -- ha ha, yet I'd never do that because I want to know what happens too!) but I've always considered this series a western saga that DOES have an end. I've been fortunate that I've been allowed to write the books how I want, at the pace I want, with the subject matter I want--all with 100% publisher support. That is rare. Since the books have such a great following, there is that mindset to continue to "cash in" on the popularity of the series and characters. But I won't do that because at what point do the new books just become a rehash of the older books? I'd much rather end the series on a high note, at the height of popularity than wait until the series might be considered "tired" and I start to lose readers. Plus, I have lots of ideas, situations, characters and areas to explore in other fictional worlds. I hope readers come along for the ride.

My first book by Lisa Henry and boooooooyyy can that girl write!!

Can I start by saying that that guy on the cover is exactly how I pictured Brady. Such a delicious mix of innocent and hot! Okay, now onto my actual review...

"Dark Space" has me written all over it. I love a good sci-fi book, emphasis on good. When sci-fi makes sense it takes me into my head like no other genre. So when you combine a fantastic sci-fi concept with smoking hot MM lovin', DAMN do you get a winner! And this book is winner winner chicken dinner.

The telepathy between Brady and Cam was amazing to read about. Lisa Henry did a fabulous job showing the whole range of emotions that Brady had while being forced to share his head-space with Cam. His wavering between frustration, lust, anger... it just felt so real and so on point. I went through the whole gamut of feelings with Brady. I was totally in this story.

This book is also the most realistic gay-for-you book that I have ever read. I have really never believed that true GFY exists, but instead that the person was just "gay" and one particular person made them realize it. However, here, with Cam's lust and emotions fueling Brady's emotions... shaping them, changing them, I felt like Brady could have truly could have become gay for Cam. I also loved how Brady reacted to feeling attracted to a man. He really rolled with the punches, so to speak, and after some internal debate, seemed at peace with his attraction to Cam. There was no self-loathing about his man-loving feelings. It was really well done.

And thank you Lisa Henry for answering my smutty smutty sci-fi prayers!! There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that gets me going like a first-timer! Oh, you did not disappoint me! The way the sex was interwoven into the plot was just genius.

My only complaint is the ending. Lisa, this book was almost on my top faves of all time shelf. However, the ending was just so rushed. After all of that delicious, meticulous build-up, it just seemed like an incredibly fast way to end things. I actually might have preferred a bittersweet ending. This ending just seemed forced.

Despite my problems with the way things closed out, this book was just an astounding work of fiction. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it!
